Public health officials with Manitoba Health, Seniors and Long-Term Care are inviting Manitobans in the Southern Health–Santé Sud region to participate in a telephone town hall about measles on Wednesday, June 3 at 6 p.m.
The information session will provide an opportunity to connect with communities and answer questions so Manitobans can make informed decisions for themselves, their families and their communities.
Participants will hear from Dr. Jazz Atwal, deputy chief provincial public health officer, who will provide an overview of the current situation and respond to questions. Award-winning journalist Kathleen Martens will host the event.
Measles is a highly infectious communicable disease spread through coughing or sneezing. An infected person can spread the virus from four days before the rash appears until four days after. Measles can lead to serious complications, especially for young children, pregnant people and individuals with weakened immune systems.
